Orienteering
In the forest we have an orienteering course set out to
test people’s navigational skills. The course is within
a kilometre of the centre and normally takes about an hour
or so to complete. It is suited to adults and to children.
Participants are given a map, and briefed on simple map
reading and forest awareness before heading off into the
forest to find and record the clues. Staff accompany the
groups in order to shadow and advise, rather than to 'show
people the way'.
Two-way radios are particularly useful in orienteering,
particularly when the need arises to call the centre to
"put the kettle on"!
