Daerwynno (Field of Gwynno) is set in about half an acre of land, in the middle of St. Gwynno forest. A track leads down from the Ynysybwl to Ferndale road, just beyond St Gwynno's Church. The land is leased from the Forestry Commission.

Cwm Clydach Outdoor Activity Group (CCOAG) has been operational at Daerwynno Centre since 1996. The group of volunteers rebuilt the derelict farm buildings to a good, if basic, standard after acquiring a lease from the Forestry Commission.

Outdoor activities began for quite diverse groups of people, the instruction being delivered by volunteers with nationally recognised qualifications. These instructors were supported by other volunteers who, themselves, worked towards, and gained, the necessary skills and qualifications. The group moved from strength to strength and over the years has seen a steady increase in volunteers.

The demand for use of the centre and organised activities has also increased and, in 2005, the group accepted over 50 bookings, ranging from evening sessions to week-long stays.

The day-to-day running costs are covered by bookings for activities, membership, charity events that we organise and donations. We aim to keep charges as low as possible, because our desire is, and has always been, to provide facilities for community groups.
