Facilities
Daerwynno Outdoor Centre offers basic residential accommodation
and is expanding to cater for the increasing needs of able-bodied
and disabled people seeking to engage in outdoor leisure
activities.
Inside, the main building has a large ground-floor room
suitable for cooking and dining. This room is equipped with
kitchen units containing the necessary cutlery, crockery,
and cooking utensils for self-catering. There is a solid-fuel
Rayburn for cooking and heating, with a wood store on the
side of the building. In addition there is a caravan-type
gas cooker. Equipped with bench seating, this ground floor
room is also suitable for classroom lessons and activities,
or just socialising. Cold water is fed from a nearby natural
spring, and electric lighting is environmentally-friendly
powered by a small wind turbine and solar panels.
Upstairs, the two bedrooms contain bunk-type sleeping platforms
to cater for up to twenty people. Foam mats are provided,
but groups must bring their own sleeping bags. Alternatively,
a camping lawn, which has room for about twelve two-person
tents, is available and is used frequently in the summer
months, for those providing their own tents.
The centre has constructed the first outdoor rock-climbing
boulder in the area, which, together with the house's gable-end,
makes climbing a popular activity. Within the grounds there
is a small wildlife pond, particularly suitable for the
younger groups. We also have permission to use the nearby
Clydach reservoir for canoeing and, being in the middle
of the forest, gives our visitors the perfect setting in
which to experience and enjoy the natural surroundings.
